2. CAREERS FOR ALUMNI IN PUBLIC SERVICE PROGRAM (CAPS)


DEADLINE: MARCH 30, 2009

The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the US Department of State and IREX (the International Research & Exchanges Board) are pleased to announce The Careers for Alumni in Public Service (CAPS) Project for alumni of the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program.

The aim of the CAPS program is to further involve Muskie alumni in the public service sector in their home communities, utilizing the training and education they received in the United States as well as to encourage alumni to contribute to underfunded institutions in need of their skills and expertise. Muskie alumni who meet the eligibility requirements listed in this application may receive a stipend of up to $750 per month for a period of up to six months while remaining committed to public service work in their home communities.

Applications will be considered from alumni in good standing, who live and work in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, or Ukraine, and who have secured a professional position with a local organization dedicated to public service at the time of application.

3. FLEX ALUMNI REUNION ON APRIL 20, 2009

Dear FLEX/FSA Alumni,

This year is 15th Anniversary of FLEX. For some of alumni it has been years and years since you're completion of FLEX program, some still have fresh memories. Yet still you're the FLEX Alumni and part of our flex community, which we're proud of. We're certain that you have something to remember, and that FLEX program was a beginning of who you are now.

So in order for you to refresh your memories, get back to old times, meet you're friends after long period, we're going to conduct FLEX Alumni Reunion on April 20, 2009. This event will be a chance for you to meet your friends from the PDO, during flights to US, friends whom you haven't met for a long time.

4. ECONOMICS EDUCATION AND RESEARCH CONSORTIUM ANNOUNCE ECONOMICS RESEARCH GRANT COMPETITION, SPRING 2009 ROUND, Deadline April 12, 2009

Name: ECONOMICS EDUCATION AND RESEARCH CONSORTIUM

Title: Economics Research Grant Competition

Submission deadline: April 12, 2009

Proposals are solicited in the following five areas with relevance to current policy concerns in the CIS:

  • Enterprises and product markets
  • Labor markets and social policy
  • Macro, financial markets and open economy
  • Public economics
  • International trade and regional integration

NOTE: We encourage proposals for policy relevant INTERDISCIPLINARY research on the intersection of Economics with other disciplines, such as Political Science, Sociology, Demography, Geography and Ecology.

The best research teams will be invited to present their projects at the EERC RESEARCH WORKSHOP in June 27-29 2009 in Kiev. Heads of projects must attend the workshop in order to be considered for a grant.

GRANTS up to $14,000 are awarded to individual researchers or small research teams (up to 3 persons) for up to 18 months. Grant size depends on the number participants and specific budget requirements of the project. Additionally, particularly promising young researchers (primarily from periphery regions of CIS) may be awarded development grants (up to $2,000) and training opportunities in the framework of EERC Research Development Program. In addition to a small stipend, and literature and data allowance, these grants may be coupled with an opportunity to take courses and receive guidance at the following institutions:

Upon completion of research, authors of the best papers may be offered follow-on grants to develop policy briefs for presentation and discussion at policy roundtable meetings organized by the EERC.

Консорциум экономических исследований и образования ( http://www.eerc.ru , http://kse.org.ua/) – региональный партнер Глобальной сети развития ( Global Development Network, GDN) в странах СНГ – рад объявить об открытии конкурса научных проектов «ВЕСНА 2009».

КРАЙНИЙ СРОК ПРИЕМА ЗАЯВОК – 12 АПРЕЛЯ 2009 г.

Конкурс проводится по следующим приоритетным направлениям:

  • Предприятия и рынки товаров
  • Рынки труда и социальная политика
  • Макроэкономика и финансовые рынки
  • Экономика общественного сектора
  • Международная торговля и региональная интеграция

Особо приветствуются научные исследования НА СТЫКЕ ЭКОНОМИКИ И ДРУГИХ ДИСЦИПЛИН, таких как политология, социология, демография, география и экология, связанные с решением актуальных проблем экономического и социального развития стран СНГ. Финалисты конкурса будут приглашены на ИССЛЕДОВАТЕЛЬСКИЙ СЕМИНАР 27-29 июня 2009 г. в Киеве, по итогам которого будет принято решение о дальнейшей поддержке проектов. Рассмотрение проекта на семинаре возможно только при личном участии руководителя.

ГРАНТЫ до 14 тыс. долларов США присуждаются индивидуальным исследователям или небольшим исследовательским коллективам (не более трех человек) на срок до полутора лет. Размер гранта зависит от количества участников, характера исследования и затрат, связанных с его выполнением.

Перспективным молодым исследователям (преимущественно из регионов России, Украины и других стран СНГ) предоставляются ГРАНТЫ НА ДОРАБОТКУ ПРОЕКТОВ (до 2 тыс. долларов США). Помимо стипендии и средств на покупку профессиональной литературы данные гранты могут включать средства на обучение и научные стажировки (от 1 до 7 недель) в рамках Программы повышения квалификации Консорциума (Research Development Program) в следующих учебных центрах:

Certificate Program

Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) Summer School is a certificate program, aimed at bringing together world-renowned scholars, academicians and policy-makers with ADA students and faculty to examine and gain better understanding of issues of global importance and their practical application. The 2009 Summer School will be dedicated to the study of “Energy Politics and Economics.” Upon completion of the program, the participants will be issued a certificate by the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy.

Program Description

The 2009 ADA Summer School is a joint program of ADA and the Cambridge Center for Energy Studies. It will examine major issues in energy politics and economics in the contemporary international system. A special emphasis will be put on the unique challenges and perspectives of energy exporters, addressing issues such as the current dynamics of oil and gas markets, investments in energy production under price volatility, impact of emerging climate change regimes on energy exporters, and revenue management. The program will also examine the interplay between international politics and energy supply, discuss issues such as the use of energy supply to promote foreign policy agendas and will look at the emerging trends in Caspian natural gas export.

The Summer School program will be interactive in its format and will provide extensive opportunity for professionals in the field of energy to interact and build long-lasting ties. The Summer School will also give opportunity to meet public and private sector leaders from Azerbaijan as well as other countries of the Caspian region.

Extra-curricula activities

The event will be held at the marvelous Retro Club Resort Hotel, a five-star beach resort outside Baku. While living and learning at the Retro Resort, participants will also enjoy outstanding recreation opportunities, including swimming in the legendary Caspian Sea. Downtown Baku is also easily accessible from Retro for night life, shopping, dining and sightseeing.

During the week-ends, the summer school will offer excursions to various regions of Azerbaijan, including unique sites connected to Azerbaijan’s oil and gas industry of the past and present, such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, the Sangachal oil terminal, “The Oil Rocks” – first city in the open sea, Naftalan oil baths resort, Gobustan Mud Volcanoes, and the museum of Azerbaijan’s first oil baron, Haji Zeynalabidin Tagiyev.

International body of participants and scholars

Participants will include middle and senior level policy makers from a number of states, energy company representatives, academic faculty members, journalists focusing on energy, and representatives of regional and international organizations. The class is limited to 35 participants.

The summer school will be followed up with a research conference to be hosted in the winter by the Cambridge Center for Energy Studies, Judge School of Business, Cambridge University, UK.

Program expenses

Tuition fee for the ADA 2009 Summer School is 1500 USD. Merit based scholarships are available to the applicants. Participants are requested to cover their international travel and lodging expenses. ADA has arranged a discounted rate at the Retro Club Resort Hotel and nearby hotels for the Summer School participants. Local transportation, extra-curriculum activities and field trips, lunches and welcome reception will be covered by ADA.

1. DANCHURCHAID (DCA) AND INTERCHURCH ORGANIZATION FOR DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION (ICCO) SEEK A BOOKKEEPER FOR THE JOINT DCA/ICCO OFFICE IN BISHKEK, KYRGYZSTAN

The Bookkeeper will be responsible for:

    • daily cash transaction of the office running costs
    • maintaining daily cash book
    • administration of all bills and receipts
    • submitting relevant documents to tax inspection authorities, social fund and others

The book keeper will work closely with the Finance Officers of DCA and ICCO and the office manager.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

    • Experiences in submitting monthly reports to local authorities
    • Advanced PC user, and knowledge of accounting software 1C
    • Experience in maintaining office petty cash
    • Good communication skills;
    • Strong self-organization and ability to plan, prioritize and implement tasks;
    • Experience in team work;

Good speaking and writing skills in Russian and English is a precondition.

В обязанности бухгалтера входит:

    • ведение ежедневных финансовых операций связанных с текущими расходами офиса;

Требуемая квалификация:

    • отличное знание компьютера и 1С

    • хорошие коммуникативные навыки
    • высокая самоорганизация, способность планировать, выбирать приоритеты и выполнять планы
    • опыт работы в команде

Хорошее знание устного и письменного английского является необходимым условием для кандидатов.
